Yesterday was the perfect weather to turn Tessa into a giant snowball. I laughed when she first emerged from a big drift covered in little white bumbs, but started to get concerned as they grey larger and larger. She could hardly move at the end, and even after we got home, the snowballs remained stubbornly clumped. I finally had to run a hot bath to melt them away.

But she (and big brother Dexter, visiting for the day) sure looked funny!

FYI, Caesar was completely unaffected - the benefits of short beagle hair.

It's a windy day in this neck of the woods, but that doesn't stop us from having fun in the snow.

Caesar is 11 1/2 years old and spends most of his time sleeping or thinking of food. Tessa is 2 months old and spends most of her time sleeping or peeing in inappropriate places (even after I've just taken her out for a potty break). Up until now, Caesar has spent most of their time together loftily ignoring her, or trying to get as far away as possible. But starting about 15 minutes ago, he's now sharing his favorite blanket with her and licking her and chasing her around and they're both as happy as can be. So good to see!

Busy day yesterday, trying to get Tessa used to the new routine while my sister is off visiting relatives in New Jersey. (I somewhat gratefully begged off because of the pets.) I really must figure out a faster way to get everybody ready for walks. Caesar is an old pro at this, but Tessa is more likely than not to pee on the floor if I don't get her out the door in a jiffy. But there's collars and leashes for the dogs and hats and mitts and coats and boots for me, and then there's the puppy carrier for Tessa to ride in once she gets tired. At least yesterday was warm enough that I didn't have to bundle the dogs up in their winter jackets too. I really must get photos of us all milling around in the hallway, but those will have to wait.

Also spent time getting Tessa used to her crate. She's quite good at going to 'jail', if only because I keep the puppy food there to stop Caesar from eating it.

Merry Christmas! I wish you and your families the very best for the festive season.

We had a lovely Christmas here. Having some snow really helps get me in the Christmas spirit, and this year we've already had three major falls. We were also lucky enough to only be hit by the edge of the recent ice storm so the power stayed on (a non trivial consideration out here).

Can't wait to share the BIG news, which is my brand new PUPPY! The naming process was hard. I wanted something Superman related but my sister vetoed names like Shelby and Lexi. And many other names were out of the running because of other associations (like Lola, L-O-L-A Lola, Lo Lo Lo La Lola). But we finally settled on Tessa, which is just perfect. Here's a picture of her with my sister.

A couple of months ago, I dropped my laptop on its side and chipped away a teeny tiny bit of the casing - alas though it was the tiny bit that holds the screw that keeps the top and bottom parts of the casing together. Since then, I haven't been able to close the laptop, and had been living in fear that one of the cats would rub against it a bit too enthusiastically. Fortunately the laptop survived throughout the Big Bang writing period, but it finally expired last week. So yesterday, my sister chipped in as an early Christmas present and we got a brand new laptop - woohoo! It's not exactly top of the line, but its got a touch screen and more memory than I would ever have dreamed anybody would need. And its pretty styling too with an aluminum finish - much nicer than my old acer. So I'm a pretty happy camper.

Only problem is of course it comes with the newest version of Windows, so I have to learn a whole new interface. And set up what feels like a gazillion apps. And input a bazillion passwords that I usually just trust the computer to remember for me. And... Nuisance, but pretty exciting.

As a result, I've fallen behind on the smallvillebbang postings. Can't wait to read them all - the cover art has been really inspiring! Do you have any favourites?
