Tessa goes to jail
Busy day yesterday, trying to get Tessa used to the new routine while my sister is off visiting relatives in New Jersey. (I somewhat gratefully begged off because of the pets.) I really must figure out a faster way to get everybody ready for walks. Caesar is an old pro at this, but Tessa is more likely than not to pee on the floor if I don't get her out the door in a jiffy. But there's collars and leashes for the dogs and hats and mitts and coats and boots for me, and then there's the puppy carrier for Tessa to ride in once she gets tired. At least yesterday was warm enough that I didn't have to bundle the dogs up in their winter jackets too. I really must get photos of us all milling around in the hallway, but those will have to wait.

Also spent time getting Tessa used to her crate. She's quite good at going to 'jail', if only because I keep the puppy food there to stop Caesar from eating it.

Le I loved her crate especially when we went out. How big will she get?

She's a miniature schnauzer, so 12-14 inches is the standard.

Isn't she just! I'll probably be spamming the flist with puppy pics for a few months to come.

Congratulations to Tessa on her new family!

May her bladder expand and grow ever larger to prevent those "unfortunate accidents" before her interesting walks!

I sometimes walk a friend's dog with mine and I commiserate with all your preparations prior to walking. I not only have to dress up everyone, but I have to go to the ladies' room myself before we finally leave the house. My bladder holds up a bit better than Tessa's.

Will Tessa get a snazzy life preserver like Caesar's? We must have pictures of the both of them in their "boating" outfits.

Yeah, I have to take my potty break first too usually and I'm always worried Tessa will do her business while waiting on me to do mine.

And ooh, I didn't think about that - yup, add a life jacket to the list when we go to the cottage this summer.

She really is darling. I was up every three hours at night with my puppy, but it was so worth it. Just like with babies, enjoy it because before you know it she'll be all grown up!

I keep reminding myself of that when I start to feel my temper starting to get out of hand. I think part of the problem is the weather - it just dived down to -20 so we can't keep her outside for long enough to burn off some energy, and our house isn't really big enough to give her room to play without getting in the face of our other dog or the cats - all of home think she's crazy. But we'll muddle through - I plan to sleep a lot tomorrow!

Check in your area and see if there is a doggie daycare. I bring both dogs to one a couple of times a week to burn off energy and so they learn to socialize. They love it! If they don't have one, there are often puppy meet and greets where owners get together to let their pups romp. Any outlet is better than having them chew up something in the house :-)

Look at that adorable puppy! I totally understand it taking 8 million years to do the smallest tasks! I have two cats and taking them anywhere is always a comedy of errors. And then there is the chorus of crying meows the whole way! Oy.

She looks quite comfy in the crate!

That is the cutest little convict.
